The Maple Group's History

The Founding Stone

Domenic Rossi founded the Maple Group with a simple yet effective philosophy – provide the customer with an exceptional quality product, on time, with after sales care that exceeds their expectations and you will have earned their loyalty for life. A new immigrant to Canada, Mr. Rossi started a tile and terrazzo installation company in Toronto in 1967. The Maple Group built its reputation on commitment and the dynamics of honoring its’ word on the project.

The Years of Expansion

In the early 1980’s, Mr. Rossi’s son Fred joined the company.  Maple was growing at a fast pace but so was the competition.  Finding innovative ways of becoming better, Maple shifted operations to a new facility enabling it to set up its own fabrication shop.  This alowed Maple to offer cut to size stones for cladding projects as well as custom stone counters for all kinds of commercial and residential applications.

The Turning Point

In the early 1990’s Fred diversified his father’s initiative to a new direction - the residential market.  Maple immediately landed its first “big box” contract with Aikenhead’s which is now the world renowned Home Depot.  Realizing the opportunities, Fred immediately began developing and marketing the residential arm of the Maple Group of Companies, Trade Mark Registered and recognized today as Stoneworx Silestone & Granite.

Milestone Plateaus

At the turn of the century Fred Rossi took his vision to a new step. He expanded the business from coast to coast in Canada and south of the border.  The result was the incorporation of a U.S. affiliate company, Maple Group USA, Inc., which currently services over 150 Home Depot stores in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana and handles commercial projects across the United States.  This is all made possible through a 30,000 square foot satellite distribution facility located in Taylor, Michigan.

In 2002 the Canadian fabrication facilities responded to the increase in demand by quickly expanding from 20,000 to 65,000 square feet. New players emerged as the customer base diversified in different market segments. These included Kitchen & Bath dealers, New Home Builders, Re-modelers and other retail outlets.

In 2007 Fred had to decide whether to maintain current volume levels or to take a giant leap and become a Master Distributor of slab and tile across North America. In the same spirit, drive and passion that his father had, Fred purchased the 118,000 square foot mega plant in Bolton, Ontario to diversify the product offering yet again.  This gave rise to the distribution arm of the Maple Group of Companies, which operates independently today as International Logistics & Stone Distribution, servicing the Silestone Quartz and Sensa Granite needs of fabricators across North America.
